Be A Kid Again
Remember when you were a kid and all you thought about was whatever it was you were doing? There were no jobs to worry about, no children to take care of, no idea of what was needed to make us “successful.” Heck, we did not even think about what it took to be happy. We just were!
I remember getting to my mid-twenties when this noticeably began to disappear. And by the time I was 30 I longed for the days when all I thought about was where my friends were, what our plans were, about how much we always loved whatever we were doing. That was fun.
Thinking back, mostly it was just being with them. My friends I mean. We were happy just being together! It sure does not seem like that anymore. When I get together with people now, it does not feel like it did as a younger person. Everyone is so busy; everyone has other things to get to, other things on their mind.
So hard to live in the moment when there is so much we need to do. But is there really? Yes. Yes, there is. Oh, ok. But when I was a kid there was always so much to do too. What is the difference between the so much to do now and the so much to do then?
The difference is that when I was a kid, I loved whatever it was I was doing. Maybe I should love whatever I am doing now? Worth a try.
Here is a joke that always gives me a laugh, maybe you will like it too.
Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, “Fried chicken.” She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else laughed.
My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much.
I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.
The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal’s office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.
I don’t understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am.
Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her, “Colonel Sanders.”
Guess where I am now…
